ACA Presents Pasta Dinner Fundraiser Feb. 23

pasta dinner 1The Academy of Culinary Arts is hosting a pasta dinner fundraiser, this Friday, Feb. 23, at Careme’s Restaurant.

The dinners are Pasta with Marinara Sauce for $12, and Pasta with Bolognese Sauce for $15; both include a roll, Caesar salad and dessert.

Reservations for seating can be made between 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Pick-up’s for preorders begin at 4:30 p.m., and must be ordered by Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Cash, check or credit card accepted.

Proceeds will support the Academy of Culinary Arts Overseas Experience.

Tickets are now on sale for South Jersey’s premier food and beverage fundraising event. The 35th annual Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala will take place on Wednesday, March 28, in the Avalon Ballroom of Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City.

Eight Complete Academy of Culinary Arts Short-term Training Program

On Jan. 25, eight students were recognized for completing the Academy of Culinary Arts four-month noncredit training program. The ceremony was held in the Caesars Entertainment Wing for Hospitality and Gaming Studies at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus.

The program began with Chef Kelly McClay, dean of the Academy of Culinary Arts, welcoming guests, followed by remarks by Dr. Josette Katz, interim vice president of academic affairs at Atlantic Cape. Continue reading

Strudels Bakeshop is Open for Spring Semester

Strudels Bakeshop, located in M Building across from Careme’s, has reopened for spring semester.

Hours are 12:30-2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Items available for purchase today are:

  • Orange Chocolate Angel Food Cake $6
  • German Chocolate Cake (contains nuts) $8
  • Vanilla Pound Cake $4

Careme’s Restaurant Reopens for Lunch for Spring Semester Jan. 25; Farm-to-Table Cuisine Featured

Careme’s, the student-run, gourmet restaurant at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Academy of Culinary Arts, will reopen Jan. 25.

The restaurant offers an a la carte lunch menu with items including black bean and sweet potato soup; garden salad with crispy bacon lardons, dried cherries, ranch dressing and spiced corn tortillas; Brussels sprout salad with baby kale, green apples, goat cheese, citrus vinaigrette and candied almonds; shrimp po’boy, Cajon remoulade, lettuce, tomato and pickled onion; biscuits and gravy; seasoned pan seared catfish, with lime cilantro brown butter; southern fried chicken, sweet tea marinated; grilled maple and fresh herb marinated pork medallions with apricot demi-glace; and bacon and sweet potato pea risotto. Desserts include praline crème brûlée; warm apple pie with sharp cheddar cheese and vanilla ice cream; and butter cake with double chocolate ice cream and toffee sauce. Continue reading

Academy of Culinary Arts Announces Spring Open House Dates

The Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College will host several open houses this spring for prospective students who love to cook and are interested in starting a career in the culinary field.

The open houses are planned for 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25; 10 a.m.-noon, Monday, Feb. 19; 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 21; 1-3 p.m. at the college-wide open house, Sunday, April 8; and 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, at the Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike, M Building. Kevin Ortzman, regional president for Caesars Entertainment (Bally’s, Caesars and Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City) will be honored at the Restaurant Gala as the Community Honoree. The 2018 Culinary Honoree is Georgeann Leaming of Brigantine, executive chef of Gordon Ramsay Pub & Kitchen located in Caesars Atlantic City Hotel and Casino and 1999 Academy of Culinary Arts graduate. Leaming was the Season 19 champion on the Food Network’s Chopped! series. Continue reading
